Glad I chose to take this over self-studying

I hate to admit it but I've always been one of those gunner-types (taking the easiest GE classes for GPA boosts and making sure I got the best professors for my prereqs) and as a result maintained nearly a 4.0 throughout undergrad. My goal for the MCAT was to score a 520 or higher (aiming for a top 15-20 med school) and I was torn between taking a prep class or just self studying. I decided taking a class would be worth the extra money because you really only get one shot at the MCAT so I started doing some research and came across Curvesetter Tutoring. I was immediately convinced that this was the company I wanted to go with after seeing the transparency page. The MCAT scores of the tutors really speak for themselves and I think its great how open they are about it since at other places there could be a teacher who maybe didn't even do well on the MCAT and there's nothing you could do about it. I bought the complete live online course and actually requested to add a bunch of extra sessions ($150 each) because of how brilliant my tutor was. He really knows the exam inside and out and is so good at picking out only the significant parts of the passages and then applying them directly to the questions. He almost made the exam seem easy. The passages was where I really felt myself struggling with at first and I'm fortunate that my tutor was able to help me improve on it. If you want to attend a top medical school, you need to have a very competitve MCAT and in my opinion Curvesetter is the best place to get it.

A bit pricey but worth it if you want a high score

I attended one of the most notorious cut-throat universities with a big pre-med population for undergrad and as such my GPA took a pretty big hit after physics and orgo. In short, I knew I needed to get a really high score on my MCAT (515+) in order to be competitve for medical school and so I was willing to do whatever it took (including dropping 2K on a class). I came across CurveSetter through a facebook ad and at first I was a bit skeptical because it isn't one of the big/well-known test-prep companies like Kaplan, TPR, Berkeley Review, etc and the class is conducted online through the computer. But after seeing some reviews and the score reports of the tutors, I was convinced that it would be worth my time and money. I did a three month one-on-one online course with Alex and I could not be any happier with my experience. First off, I had no problem with doing it over the computer and actually now prefer it to driving out to somewhere else since the screen-sharing function worked flawlessly and there were rarely any interruptions or technical issues. I also have to travel a lot for work so I was able to do a couple of sessions from hotels and airport lounges that I would've missed had I done the course elsewhere. During the sessions, Alex was able to simplify concepts that I had the toughest time understanding in undergrad and almost made the MCAT seem easy. The sessions flew by and before I knew it, I was sitting for my exam in september. One month later when the scores came back, I found out that I had scored higher than my initial goal! I'm extremely happy with my decision and have already recomneded a bunch of my friends to take this course too.

Wish I found out about this before sitting for my first exam.

The first time i took the MCAT (last summer) I basically self-studied for the whole thing using some study plan that was posted on SDN. I had a hard time keeping up with the plan and a lot of times felt like the stuff I was reading in the kaplan books was complete and utter overkill. I went into information overload and for that reason overlooked the "big idea" for a lot of important concepts which penalized me when I sat for my first exam. I was devastated when I got my score back and saw that I had scored under 500 (below average). But I knew I could score better and this time I was set on actually using a prep company to help me. I heard about curvesetter through word of mouth (apparently the founder goes to my alma mater) and was reluctant at first since it doesn't have the name recognition of firms like berkeley review and kaplan but my friends kept raving about it so I decided to give it a shot. it was easily one of the best decisions i have made since i felt like my tutor was actually teaching me the concepts and made sure i completely understood them before moving on. my tutor was extremely patient, intelligent, and had great communcation skills. I really don't have anything negative to say about my experience. They were also able to accommodate my situation as far as pricing was concerned so I am grateful for that.

Big improvement in my understanding of CARS

I was having a lot of trouble with the CARS section on the MCAT because I wasn't born in the United States. Although my chemistry/physics, and biology/biochemistry on the other hand were pretty good, I would consistently score below average on practice exams in CARS (123 and lower). After hearing about curvesetter, I decided to give the online CARS course a try which is just a bunch of videos that add up to about an hour on how to understand hard passages. There i began to understand the logic behind each sentence and how to link it to the main idea and I started seeing improvements when I resumed my practice exams.

I enrolled in a MCAT prep course through CurveSetter Tutoring and specifically booked Alex for one on one sessions. We met for 3 hours a week for a few months and after only our first couple of sessions, I already saw an improvement in my understanding of physics and CARS. His explanation of optics (lenses, mirrors) finally got through to me, after having struggled with it in college. The greatest surprise was seeing a 6 point jump in my score which made the whole thing worth it, especially given the boost in my CARS subscore so I can't really complain!

I didn't really need help with learning the content for the MCAT but I went to curve setter because I needed help on creating a structured plan that would keep me on time to finish all the content review and actual test prep in the right amount of time. Alex video conference with me to go over the entire thing and to create a detailed and doable self-study plan that I would feel comfortable with on a daily basis. So far it has worked out pretty well and I'm planning on booking more sessions again when I'm done with my content review and ready to start taking practice tests.
